Sue always begins her day early with good intentions to run and work out. Her greatest joy is being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Family is her priority, which has strengthened her desire to provide any assistance that she can to help other children succeed. Literacy is her passion and she learns as much as she can to support individual needs for Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Everyone can be a successful reader and writer with the right experience and instruction.

Sue is currently on the board of the North Suburban Speech and Language Association. The topics and networking keep her current in all areas of Speech and Language learning. Sue enjoys staying in touch with friends, reading professional books and journals, and just watching a good movie to relax. Treatment Philosophy: Sue’s treatment philosophy and goals include the whole family and student. Sue considers developmentally appropriate speech and language milestones and application to effective communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing to guide goals for change. Sue believes success requires communication and collaboration with a team of professionals to support important goals across disciplines. The most important goal for Sue is for every child to feel confident and proud of their abilities.

Sue has specialized training in Orton-Guillingham, The Lindamood Bell LIPS, Visualizing and Verbalizing, Seeing Stars, On Cloud Nine, as well as Word Finding and Verbal Apraxia. She also has training in SPELL-Links, Wilson, and is a certified provider for SLANT (Systematic Language Training). Sue is a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Language Association. Sue also is licensed in Early Childhood Education and taught First Grade for 2 years. Sue understands the rigorous expectations of the curriculum and school day. She is also trained in social cognition, which includes social skills, perspective-taking, and theory of mind. She conducted professional development at Hawthorn School District for the Zones of Regulation as well as using the EET (Expanding Expression Tool) to develop and expand expressive language.

Sue attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. She received her Bachelors and Masters in Speech Pathology with a minor in Psychology. She was a Speech Pathologist in public schools for many years. She knows the curriculum, common core demands, and IEP expectations. Sue knows the importance of collaboration with educational teams. Sue continued her education to receive her license in Early Childhood Education and taught First Grade for 2 years. Sue also continued her education to become certified in SLANT. Sue loves to learn. She has recently earned her 19th ACE, Award for Continuing Education, from the American Speech and Hearing Association.
